This wonderful Chettinad wooden door is really an enormous masterpiece in our showroom. This door from a royal palace of Chettinad is hand-crafted in such a way that it would amaze anyone. The chieftains of this area were known as chettiars and were also known as the trader princes of the pallava kings. The chettinad houses used to be built in temple style and one of the pieces from such a royal family is this beautiful wooden door.
Top of the door is beautifully carved Gaja Lakshmi goddess and two elephants in both ends. The frame of this door is solid timber and is as big as the beams that were used to support the house. The doors are of double thickness supported by clasps of iron mounted on solid pins and adorned with pointed studs to protect the door from attack of enemy elephants. This heavy brass works on the door adds an extra uniqueness. Aged around 100 years, this antique door will attract the attention of every individual.
